Ex-Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has predicted a 3-1 victory for the World Test Champions in the upcoming 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Ponting believes that Australia will be eager to make a statement, having lost the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at home in 2018-19 and 2020-21.

Here it is worth mentioning that Australia’s last Test series victory over India was a decade ago, and they have since lost four consecutive BGT series, both home and away.

“I’m obviously going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia,” Ponting said on the ICC Review.

“We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone’s really excited by that and I don’t know if there’d be too many drawn games,” Ponting added.

For the first time in over 32 years, India and Australia will face off in a five-match Test series, starting on November 22 in Perth.

The second Test will be a day-night match in Adelaide, followed by a game at the Gabba in Brisbane from December 14. The series will conclude with the traditional Boxing Day Test at the MCG and the New Year’s Test at the SCG.
