Former England cricketer Ian Bell has been named Sri Lanka’s batting coach for their upcoming tour of England.

The Sri Lankan team will compete in three Tests at Manchester, Lord’s, and the Oval, beginning on August 21.

Ian Bell is set to start his tenure with the Sri Lankan team on August 16 and will stay on until the conclusion of the three-Test series.

“We appointed Ian to bring in a person with local knowledge to help the players with key insights on the conditions there. Ian has a lot of experience playing in England, and we believe his inputs will help our team in this crucial tour,” Sri Lanka Cricket CEO Ashley De Silva said in a statement.

Notably, Sri Lanka has won three of their last four Test series, all of which were played in familiar Asian conditions.

They secured victories against Ireland and Afghanistan at home and also triumphed over Bangladesh in Bangladesh.

However, the only series loss during this period was against Pakistan at home last year. They currently sit sixth on the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) standings.

England, on the other hand, will be heading into this series high on confidence after their recent triumph over the West Indies at home last month.
