In a significant development for Kenyan cricket, Dodda Ganesh was named as the new head coach of the Kenya men’s national team at the Sikh Union Club on Tuesday.
The ex-Indian cricketer, with a notable 25 years of coaching expertise, has signed a one-year contract, and it can be extended further after seeing the performance of the team under him.
Here’s what the Dodda Ganesh said on taking up a new role:
“My first vision is to qualify for the World Cup.”
“I’ve seen the dedication and hard work among the players. I’m not interested in the past, but I firmly believe that Kenyans possess the spirit of champions,” he added.
“I’ve been watching Kenyan cricket matches on YouTube, and I’m impressed with the talent I see. It’s evident that the players are in good shape,” Dodda Ganesh concluded.
With five World Cup appearances, including standout performances in 1996, 1999, 2003, and 2011, and a T20 entry in 2007, Kenya’s cricket history is impressive. However the country has seen a massive downfall lately and failed to catch up so far.
