The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) has launched the first edition of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2024, scheduled from August 17 to September 8, 2024. The tournament will feature 33 men’s and seven women’s games, all played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
The league comprises six franchise teams, each from a distinct zone in Delhi: Purani Delhi-6 (Old Delhi), East Delhi Riders (East Delhi), West Delhi Lions (West Delhi), North Delhi Strikers (North Delhi), Central Delhi Kings (Central Delhi), and South Delhi Superstarz (South Delhi).
Among the participants, Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma stand out as the biggest names. Harshit Rana, known for his breakthrough IPL season, will also be participating in the tournament. On the other hand, players like Navdeep Saini, Yash Dhull, and Ayush Badoni, are also taking part in the T20 league .
Amidst the many participants in the tournament, here are the top five to keep an eye on:
Yash Dhull – Central Delhi Kings
The U19 World Cup-winning captain from 2022, Dhull made a remarkable debut for Delhi with a century in his first innings. He has also been part of the Delhi Capitals squad in the last two IPL seasons. Having played alongside many big players, he brings valuable experience to the table and will be keen to demonstrate his skills as the captain of Central Delhi Kings in this tournament.
Ayush Badoni – South Delhi Superstarz
Badoni made a name for himself when Gautam Gambhir, then the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants, showed faith in him during the IPL 2022 mega auction. He delivered several standout innings for LSG but has struggled with consistency. In this tournament, he will be keen to improve his performance and establish a more reliable presence.
Harshit Rana – North Delhi Strikers
The promising fast bowler from Delhi had a stellar season with Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2024, playing a key role in their IPL trophy win. Known for his intensity and aggression, Harshit Rana will be looking to continue his impressive performances in the upcoming tournament.
Mayank Rawat – East Delhi Riders
A rising star in Delhi’s local cricket scene, Mayank Rawat has made a name for himself as an exciting all-rounder. In the Col CK Nayudu Trophy 2023, he showcased his capabilities with both bat and ball, amassing 372 runs and taking 19 wickets in six matches. He will be looking to replicate this form in the Delhi Premier League T20.
Suyash Sharma – North Delhi Strikers
Suyash Sharma made a huge impact during his debut season with Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2023, picking up 10 wickets in 11 matches. However, his 2024 season saw a decline, with just two appearances and conceding 51 runs in four overs for KKR. He will seek to redeem himself and regain his form in this tournament.
