The young Pakistan pacer, Naseem Shah, has revealed why he doesn’t want his father to watch Pakistan’s matches. The left-arm pacer mentioned that his father’s health issues make it difficult for him to cope with the stress, especially when the team loses. 

Knowing his father’s fragile health puts an extra burden on the young shoulders of Naseem Shah, as the young pacer tries to keep his father away from watching the major games of Pakistan, worried that the emotional highs and lows could worsen his condition.  

The 21-year-old, who was visibly emotional while talking, described the situation as playing two games at once—one on the field and one in his heart. He explained that a cricketer’s life is always under public scrutiny, but it also involves many unseen struggles. 

“My father is going through some health issues. There was a time when he did not know anything about cricket, but now he watches every ball and gets distressed when we lose. So, before every big game, I ring my brothers to make sure that our father doesn’t watch it,” Naseem Shah was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz. 

Naseem further added that while his life is full of challenges, he still manages to find small sources of happiness to keep himself content:

“I fear that it may lead to some bigger health complications. It [the pressure] is like I am playing two matches at once. There is a lot going on in a cricketer’s life behind the scenes about which people are not aware. At times, all you are searching for are small moments of happiness.”

Naseem Shah Gearing Up for Bangladesh Challenge

Shah will be in action when Pakistan squares off against Bangladesh in the opening Test of their two-match series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, beginning Wednesday, August 21.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has never beaten Pakistan in Test cricket. Out of their 13 encounters, Pakistan won 12 matches, with the remaining match ending in a draw.
