India’s premier fast bowler Mohammed Shami is expected to miss the first Test against New Zealand but is likely to return to the national team for the second Test of the series.

Mohammed Shami, who has been sidelined since the ODI World Cup 2023, was expected to return to the national team for the New Zealand Test series. However, reports now suggest he will miss the opening Test. 

The Indian management wants Mohammed Shami to be fully fit, especially with India’s upcoming tour to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. They are keen for Shami to be part of the team for that series. 

The latest report from the Indian Express reveals that Mohammed Shami aims to make his comeback in the opening match of the upcoming Ranji Trophy season. Bengal’s first game against Uttar Pradesh is scheduled to begin on October 11, and Shami plans to participate. 

Mohammed Shami’s involvement in the Ranji Trophy opener will prevent him from participating in the first Test of the New Zealand series, which begins on October 16 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Therefore, his return to the Indian team might occur during the second or third Test against New Zealand.
