Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh’s celebrated all-rounder, has landed in deep trouble after being accused in a murder case in his home country.
The former Bangladesh captain has been implicated in the murder of Rubel Islam, following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, Rafiqul Islam.

According to the case statement, Rubel was involved in a protest march in Adabor on August 5. Shots were allegedly fired into the crowd as part of a premeditated criminal scheme, striking Rubel in the chest and abdomen.
Rubel was hospitalized but he passed away on August 7. Earlier this month, Sheikh Hasina had to step down as prime minister and escape the country. In January, she had secured an uncontested parliamentary seat with the Awami League party
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is regarded as one of Bangladesh’s greatest sports figures, having scored 4,505 runs across 67 Test matches. As a spin bowler, he holds the record for the most Test wickets in the country’s history, with 237.
