Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Friday released the schedule for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand, with both matches set to take place at Galle International Cricket Stadium (GICS).

The series opener is set to begin on September 18 and will span six days, followed by the second and final Test, which starts on September 26.

The first Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand has been scheduled for six days. According to the official SLC statement, there will be a rest day during the match due to the Presidential Elections in the country.

“21st September will be a rest day of the 1st Test Match owing to the Presidential Election of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka,” the official release stated.

This isn’t the first time a rest day has been included in a Test match. In the last decade, it was a common practice in Test cricket, especially in England, where many matches spanned six days and often included a Sunday without any play.

This will mark the first time in over 20 years that Sri Lanka has scheduled a six-day Test match, with the last instance being against Zimbabwe in Colombo in 2001, which included a rest day for Poya Day (full moon) in the country.

Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Test Series Schedule:

First Test: September 18-23, Galle
Second Test: September 26-30, Galle
