England’s young batting sensation Jamie Smith scored his maiden Test century (off 136 balls) in just his fourth match for the national team. He reached the milestone on the third day of the opening Test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford.

With this, Jamie also set a new record as the youngest England wicketkeeper batter to score a Test century. He surpassed the previous record held by Les Ames, who was 24 years and 63 days old when he made his Test hundred against the West Indies in Port of Spain in 1930.

Jamie Smith made 111 runs off 148 balls, including partnerships of 62 runs with Harry Brook for the 5th wicket, 52 runs with Chris Woakes for the 6th wicket, and 66 runs with Gus Atkinson for the 7th wicket.

Jamie Smith is also the first England wicketkeeper-batter to score a century since December 2022. The previous century was made by Ollie Pope, who was acting as captain in Manchester when he scored a hundred against Pakistan in Rawalpindi 18 months earlier.
