Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan officially retired from both domestic and international cricket on Saturday, August 24. Dhawan’s last appearance for India was in the ODI series against Bangladesh in December 2022, after which he was replaced by Shubman Gill. 

The 38-year-old posted a heartfelt video message on his social media accounts, expressing gratitude to his fans for their unwavering love and support during his career. 

Dhawan was India’s top run-scorer in the 2015 ODI World Cup. Throughout his ODI career, he played 167 matches, scoring 6793 runs at an average of 44.11 and a strike rate of 91.35, including seven centuries and five half-centuries. 

Dhawan featured in 68 T20Is, amassing 1759 runs with an average of 27.92 and a strike rate of 126.36, including 11 half-centuries. In 34 Test matches, he scored 2315 runs at an average of 40.61, with seven centuries and five fifties. Despite retiring from international and domestic cricket, he plans to continue playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
