Sameer Rizvi appears to have learned valuable lessons from MS Dhoni, the former captain of Chennai Super Kings, during his stint with the team in IPL 2024. 

Sameer Rizvi, currently leading the Kanpur Superstars in the ongoing UP T20 League, played a captain’s knock and guided his team to victory just like Dhoni used to do during his time. 

Kanpur’s captain, Rizvi, blasted 89 off 59 balls to set a challenging total of 156 in his team’s opening match against Lucknow Falcons at Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. 

Coming in at number 5 with his team struggling at 16/3, Rizvi delivered a brilliant innings. Wickets were tumbling from other end, but Rizvi stood firm. and ensured the scoreboard kept ticking.

Rizvi crafted an 89 off 59 balls, hitting eight fours and six sixes. He fell on the second last ball of the 19th over when the score was 148. The team finished with 156 and went on to defend the total by a slim margin. 

Lucknow put up a strong fight but were held to 153/9 in their 20 overs. Kanpur Superstars registered a three runs victory over Lucknow Falcons to kick off their tournament campaign with a win. 

Will CSK Retain Sameer Rizvi for IPL 2025? 

CSK picked up Sameer Rizvi after his impressive performances in the first season of the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, and it’ll be interesting to see if they keep him or let him go before the IPL 2025 mega auction.
