The owner of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sanjiv Goenka, heaped praise on their ex-mentor Gautam Gambhir, and revealed that he built a balanced team in IPL without any analyst or research team.
LSG made their debut in the Indian Premier League in 2022, alongside Gujarat Titans. They qualified for the play-offs in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons while Gautam Gambhir was the team’s mentor.
Gautam Gambhir left LSG before IPL 2024 to join Kolkata Knight Riders as their mentor. He had previously led Kolkata Knight Riders to two IPL titles and guided them to another victory in the 2024 season as their mentor.
Given Gautam Gambhir’s impressive record as a mentor, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has approached him to take on the role of head coach. This opportunity arose after Rahul Dravid’s tenure ended following the T20 World Cup 2024.
Recently, Sanjiv Goenka held a press-conference on Wednesday to unveil Zaheer Khan as their new mentor. Latet, he praised Gautam Gambhir for effectively balancing the Super Giants’ team, even though they did not have an analyst available.
“Gautam has played a significant role in building the side’s foundation. If you consider our first auction successful, it is only because of Gautam. We got the franchise barely two weeks before the auctions. We did not have an analyst or a research team. It was all Gautam Gambhir’s team,” said Goenka while speaking to SportsTak.
“He did everything and put together a very balanced team. Everyone has specific roles and Gautam played his part exceptionally well,” he added.
Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as head coach of the Indian cricket team began with the Sri Lanka tour. The team achieved victory in the three-match T20I series but was defeated in the three-match ODI series.
