Mohammad Amir, the seasoned Pakistan fast bowler, had a night to forget on Friday when he couldn’t defend 16 runs in the final over during the recent CPL 2024 match between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.

With 16 runs needed off the final over, Guyana’s Dwaine Pretorius hammered Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir for 18 runs, securing a victory in their opening match of the tournament at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua.

After Falcons’ Shamar Joseph conceded 13 runs in the penultimate over, veteran Pakistan seamer Mohammad Amir was entrusted with the final over. He began with a dot ball but was then struck for two successive fours by South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius, leaving the Warriors needing 8 runs from the last three balls.

Amir momentarily brought his team back into the game with a dot ball on the fourth delivery, but the momentum shifted again as he conceded a boundary on the fifth ball.

With the Warriors needing four runs off the final ball, Pretorius sealed the victory in style by smashing a six. Amir aimed for an off-stump line, trying to move the ball out of Pretorius’s reach, but the delivery was full enough for the all-rounder to connect perfectly, sending it over the long-off boundary.
