India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav has reportedly been ruled out of the first round of the Duleep Trophy, dealing a serious blow to his hopes of returning to the Test team. 

Suryakumar injured his hand while fielding for Mumbai against Tamil Nadu in the recently concluded Buchi Babu Tournament and now he will miss the first round of the red-ball tournament.

Notably, Suryakumar is a member of Team C, which is captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad. The team has already suffered a blow with the loss of their fast bowler Umran Malik due to illness. 

Meanwhile, India A and India B will face off at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru in the other match of the tournament. This competition will provide a platform for players vying for selection in the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh, which begins on September 19 in Chennai.
