The career trajectory of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Rinku Singh has soared in the past couple of years. One defining moment in his rise was when he smashed five monumental sixes off his domestic teammate Yash Dayal to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against Gujarat Titans in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). Since then, Rinku has never looked back, consistently stepping up to finish games for KKR. 

His impressive performances did not go unnoticed. The BCCI soon recognized his potential and handed him his India debut. Since then, Rinku has continued to play with intent and an attacking mindset, becoming a crucial player for both his franchise and the national team.

Despite his talent, Rinku Singh couldn’t get enough opportunities to showcase his batting in the IPL 2024 due to KKR’s top-order firepower. As a result, he missed out on selection for India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. However, he remains a key prospect for both Indian cricket and Kolkata Knight Riders.

With the IPL 2025 mega auction around the corner and teams preparing to announce their retention and release lists, the question arises: Will KKR retain Rinku Singh? If they do, he will continue to earn INR 55 lakh, the price at which they secured his services in the April 2022 mega auction. While many players seek higher salaries in mega auctions, Rinku Singh seems content with his current deal.

In a recent interview with News 24, Rinku shared his thoughts on his earnings: “Even 50-55 lakhs is a lot. When I started, I didn’t even imagine I would earn this much.” 

Rinku Singh Knows Power of Staying Humble

Despite his newfound fame, Rinku Singh remains grounded. Reflecting on his journey, he said:

“You did not bring anything with you, nor will you take anything with you.”

He further emphasized the importance of staying humble, especially in a sport where fortunes can change quickly.

“You never know when time will change. I would like to say that you have to go back the same way you came. Stay grounded, what else,” Rinku added.

One thing is certain: Kolkata Knight Riders are unlikely to release Rinku Singh ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. It will be interesting to see their retention list, especially considering the challenge of releasing players who played key roles in their recent title win.
