Questions surrounding the relationship between KL Rahul and LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka began after Goenka was seen scolding Rahul on camera following the Sunrisers Hyderabad vs LSG game in IPL 2024.

On the other hand, KL Rahul has struggled to perform at his best in recent IPL seasons, falling short of the standards that once defined him as a player. His failure to deliver with the bat has raised doubts about his value to the team.

If LSG decides to release Rahul, many teams are likely to compete for his services in the IPL 2025 mega auction. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three teams that might be interested in acquiring KL Rahul:

1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru 

The first team on the list is his home team, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). They might look to bring their “homeboy” back and make the most of him on the batting-friendly wicket at Chinnaswamy Stadium. KL Rahul himself has often spoken about how surreal it would be to play for RCB, being the local boy.

2. Chennai Super Kings

Ahead of IPL 2024, MS Dhoni stepped down as captain and handed the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad. However, Gaikwad struggled as a leader, and the team failed to qualify for the playoffs. Additionally, it remains uncertain whether MS Dhoni will be available for IPL 2025 due to fitness concerns. Even if Dhoni plays, the team will likely be looking for a wicketkeeper-batsman who can eventually take over the gloves when Dhoni retires. In that case, KL Rahul could be a great option.

3. Punjab Kings

The third team that could be interested in acquiring KL Rahul is his former team, Punjab Kings. Rahul enjoyed some of his best seasons with Punjab Kings, and with Shikhar Dhawan retiring from international cricket, it seems unlikely that Dhawan will be retained by the franchise. Punjab Kings will need an Indian captain, and KL Rahul could be an excellent choice for them.
