Team India is gearing up for their upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, set to kick off on September 19 in Chennai.
Meanwhile, reports suggest a possible strategy shift, with the management contemplating a surprising player omission.
The Indian cricket team, coming off an impressive 4-1 win over England in March, is gearing up to extend their World Test Championship (WTC) journey on home turf.
Following the Bangladesh series, they face New Zealand and then a pivotal tour to Australia, making each decision crucial. Preparations in Chennai have been rigorous, with players working hard under the close supervision of the coaching staff.
With Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja locked in as definite starters, the decision for the third spinner has sparked debate.
Surprisingly, Axar Patel, despite his excellent recent form and notable Test record, might be left out of the playing XI for the first match. It has been reported that Kuldeep Yadav is the frontrunner for the third spinner spot.
If this decision holds, it aims to add variety to the spin attack. Kuldeep’s left-arm wrist spin presents a different challenge compared to the finger spin of Ashwin, Jadeja, and Axar.
Leaving out Axar Patel, however, would be a difficult call. His recent Duleep Trophy performance, scoring 86 and 28 for India D against India C, highlights his all-round skills.
With 646 runs at an average of over 35 and 55 wickets at an exceptional average of 19.34 in just 14 Tests, Axar’s role in India’s recent Test successes is undeniable.
India’s Probable Playing XI vs Bangladesh
