Star West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has no plans to retire from international cricket anytime soon. After West Indies failed to win the T20 World Cup 2024 on home soil, Russell made it clear that his eyes are now set on the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Andre Russell Still Going Strong

Ahead of the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka, Russell spoke about his fitness and his passion for the game. He emphasized that he still feels fit and capable of performing at his best. “I am fit enough to bowl and bat the way I want,” Russell stated, adding that there’s no reason for him to call time on his international career just yet.

Russell, who recently won the IPL title with Kolkata Knight Riders, remains a standout figure in T20 cricket. He continues to be seen as one of the greatest T20 players of all time and still stands out in the West Indies team as a complete all-rounder.

Conversations with Coach Daren Sammy

Speaking to the media ahead of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, Russell revealed that he had positive discussions with head coach Daren Sammy about his future in T20I cricket. Russell shared:

“I’ve talked with Sammy, and he wants me to keep playing some international cricket. Looking at the talent in the Caribbean, I’ve decided to push my body and myself to continue for another two years.”

He further expressed his desire to play in the 2026 World Cup, citing the potential among young Caribbean players.

“I could have walked away from international cricket, but I want to see the young all-rounders do well. I’m still fit, still hitting the ball wherever I want, and still bowling at a good pace. I don’t see why I should stop,” Russell added.
