Abhishek Nayar, India’s batting coach, recently discussed the decision not to appoint a vice-captain for the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh.

Nayar explained that the team does not require a designated vice-captain at this time. He believes that players are quickly adapting and learning, thanks to their experiences in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and guidance from senior players.

He pointed out that players like Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant have already taken on leadership roles in their IPL franchises. This experience bodes well for India’s future in Test cricket.

Confidence in Young Leaders

“I think we have a lot of IPL captains in this team,” Nayar stated. He highlighted players such as Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and the promising Yashasvi Jaiswal as examples of emerging leaders.

The assistant coach noted that the mental development of these players, combined with their experience, positions them well for future responsibilities.

With veteran players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the dressing room, the learning process for these younger players is accelerated.
