The SA20 Auction for the third season held on Tuesday, October 1, 2025. Joburg Super Kings (JSK) made some important signings to bolster their squad.

Strategic Spending by Joburg Super Kings

Despite already having a solid core of players, JSK approached the auction with a more cautious spending strategy. With only R3.925 million left in their purse, they had the second-lowest budget among the teams. The Super Kings chose to spend just R175,000 on three key signings, which included the experienced New Zealand all-rounder Doug Bracewell.

New Signings Add Depth

Joburg Super Kings had to fill six remaining spots in their squad, including positions for three local players, two overseas players, and one rookie. Their budget limitations required careful planning. Despite these challenges, they made four important additions.

Doug Bracewell, a seasoned international player, was one of their most notable acquisitions. Alongside him, Wihan Lubbe and Evan Jones were signed, both coming in for R175K each. The Super Kings also welcomed rookie JP King to the squad, alongside Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana. 

Notably, Matheesha Pathirana also represents Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and he has been picked up by JSK as a wild card pick. In fact, his rise to prominence came through CSK. It will be interesting to see if he can make the same impact in South African conditions while playing for the Joburg Super Kings.

With these signings, the Joburg Super Kings have a well-rounded squad going into the 2025 season. Their mix of experienced international players and local talents puts them in a strong position to challenge for the title this year.
