Mayank Yadav’s highly anticipated debut for India in the first T20I against Bangladesh on October 6 turned out to be as thrilling as expected. He immediately made an impact by delivering a maiden over in his very first spell. 

The T20I clash in Gwalior featured the debut of two young stars, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who both received their first India caps. Mayank, however, stole the spotlight early on. In his debut spell, he bowled a maiden over, a rare achievement for any cricketer, let alone someone playing their first international match. 

His first international wicket came soon after, as he dismissed veteran Bangladesh batsman Mahmudullah Riyad with just his 8th delivery. Throughout his debut, Mayank’s raw pace was on full display. The right-arm quick consistently clocked speeds above 140 kph, with his fastest delivery touching 147 kph. 

It was a reminder of his blistering performance in the IPL 2024 season, where he made headlines by bowling the fastest ball in IPL history, reaching 156.7 kph against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. This ability to bowl at such high speeds adds a new dimension to India’s pace attack, which has been evolving in recent years.

Mayank Yadav Joins an Elite Club

Mayank’s maiden over on debut puts him in an exclusive group of Indian bowlers. He became only the fifth Indian cricketer to achieve this rare feat in a T20I debut. Some of the notable names in this elite club include Ajit Agarkar, Khaleel Ahmed, and Arshdeep Singh.
