Joe Root made history on Wednesday, October 9, by surpassing Alastair Cook to become England’s all-time leading run scorer in Test cricket. Root, currently playing in his 147th Test match against Pakistan in Multan, overtook Cook’s long-standing record of 12,472 runs.

Joe Root’s Historic Achievement

In the ongoing Test, Root entered the field needing just 71 runs to break the record set by former England captain Alastair Cook. He comfortably achieved the milestone during the first innings itself, reaching a total of 12,473 runs.

This incredible feat came after years of consistency, with Root now in his 13th year of international cricket. Cook, who retired after playing 161 Tests, had held the record since ending his career with 12,472 runs.

Root’s achievement places him among the elite run scorers in cricket, moving him into fifth place on the all-time list of highest run scorers in Test cricket.
