Returning England captain Ben Stokes has distanced himself from the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) decision to exclude key players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah for the second and third Tests.

Speaking to the media ahead of the second Test, which starts on October 15, Stokes said that the selection choices are Pakistan’s concern and not something for him to comment on.

“That’s Pakistan cricket’s issue. Nothing to do with me,” said the all-rounder, refusing to engage in discussions about the radical squad changes made by the hosts.

On Sunday, Pakistan surprised many by leaving out former captain Babar Azam, along with Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Sarfaraz Ahmed. Aaqib Javed, a member of the selection panel, explained that the changes were necessary, considering the need to revive the team’s form and prepare for their busy 2024-25 international calendar.

Ben Stokes Speaks on England’s Playing Style

While Stokes avoided commenting on Pakistan’s internal matters, he did reflect on England’s approach to cricket, often referred to as “Bazball.” Stokes emphasized that his team always looks for results and sometimes takes unconventional routes to ensure the game stays competitive.

“We always try and play to make sure there’s a result,” Stokes shared. “At times, we may need to do something unusual to keep the game alive and give both teams a chance to win.”

The captain further elaborated that both he and head coach Brendon McCullum believe in a style where cricket, as a sport, emerges victorious.

“That’s how we see the game – cricket should be the winner,” Stokes added.

Second Test Set for Multan Clash

The second Test in Multan promises to be an exciting encounter, especially with Pakistan fielding a new-look side in the absence of several star players. The hosts will be eager to bounce back after England’s convincing victory in the first Test, where they won by an innings and 47 runs.
