Virat Kohli’s poor run with the bat extended as he was dismissed for a duck on Day 2 of the first Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru. Facing just nine deliveries, the Delhi batter fell to pacer Will O’Rourke.

O’Rourke bowled a short-of-length delivery that brushed Kohli’s gloves, and Glenn Phillips took a sharp catch at leg gully to send him back.

This was Kohli’s 38th international duck, putting him at the top of an unwanted list. He now shares the record with New Zealand’s Tim Southee as the active cricketers with the most ducks. Rohit Sharma, the current India captain, is not far behind, with 33 ducks in his international career.

Most Ducks Across Formats (active players):

  • 38* – Virat Kohli
  • 38 – Tim Southee

Rain Hampers Start; India’s New Line-Up

The Test match, which began on a delayed note due to rain, saw India winning the toss and opting to bat first. The opening day was entirely washed out, pushing the start of play to Day 2. Skipper Rohit Sharma confirmed two changes in the playing XI – Sarfaraz Khan replaced Shubman Gill, who was ruled out with neck stiffness, and Kuldeep Yadav came in for Akash Deep as India opted for three spinners.

India and New Zealand are scheduled to play two more Tests after Bengaluru. The second Test will take place in Pune from October 24 to 28, followed by the final match of the series in Mumbai from November 1 to 5.

Kohli will look to regain form in the upcoming games as India aims to bounce back from a challenging start.
