Pakistan is considering withdrawing from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy if its hosting rights are affected due to India’s refusal to travel to the country. According to a report by Dawn, Pakistan may be forced to stop participating in cricket events involving India under the International Cricket Council (ICC) or the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) until political issues between the two countries are resolved. This possible move would come as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) consults with its government for guidance on handling the situation.
PCB to Seek Clarification from ICC on Hosting Rights
As per a report by PTI, the PCB will be reaching out to the ICC to clarify its hosting rights for the Champions Trophy. The board has been informed that India will not send its team to Pakistan, but no alternative plan, such as a hybrid hosting model, has been discussed yet. During the Asia Cup last year, a hybrid model allowed India’s matches to be held in Sri Lanka while other matches were played in Pakistan, but this option has not been proposed for the Champions Trophy.
An official source from the PCB mentioned that an email would be sent to the ICC with advice from their legal department to understand the implications of India’s decision. The PCB is also in touch with the Pakistan government to seek policy guidelines, as any drastic step by the government could lead to legal consequences for the ICC.
The PCB has yet to take any official decision but remains in discussions with its government to determine the next steps. If Pakistan’s hosting rights are affected, the government may ask the PCB to reconsider its involvement in ICC events involving India. This growing tension could have significant implications for international cricket, particularly in events where both India and Pakistan are expected to participate.
For now, Pakistan’s stance on hosting the Champions Trophy will likely depend on the ICC’s response and the guidance it receives from its government on future relations with India.
