Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) is making big changes ahead of IPL 2025. They have appointed Omkar Salvi as their new fast-bowling coach. While not a very famous name, Salvi is highly respected in India’s domestic cricket circuit for his coaching skills.

Salvi has been main man behind Mumbai’s success in domestic cricket. He is considered one of the best coaches in the country. His addition to RCB’s coaching staff is part of the team’s efforts to win their first IPL title.

Salvi has prior IPL experience, having worked as an assistant coach for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This was his only IPL stint before joining RCB. Currently, he is the head coach of the Mumbai state team, a role he will continue until March 2025.
A source close to RCB revealed the news to Indian Express. An official announcement about Salvi’s appointment is expected soon.

Who is Omkar Salvi?

Omkar Salvi is the younger brother of former Indian fast bowler Avishkar Salvi. As a coach, Omkar prefers to stay away from the spotlight. Last year, under his guidance, Mumbai won the Ranji Trophy.

As a player, Salvi’s career was brief. He played only one List-A match in 2005, representing Railways against Madhya Pradesh. However, his coaching career has been far more successful. After leaving KKR, he became the head coach of the Mumbai team, leading them to domestic glory.

Earlier this year, RCB also brought in Dinesh Karthik as their batting coach and mentor for the 2025 season. Interestingly, Karthik and Salvi have previously worked together at KKR. RCB hopes that their refreshed coaching setup will help them end their wait for an IPL trophy.

Looking ahead, RCB is expected to make strategic moves during the IPL mega-auction on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah. These changes reflect the franchise’s determination to build a winning team for IPL 2025.
