Australian pacer Mitchell Starc will represent Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming IPL season after being signed for ₹11.75 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction held on Sunday. The former IPL record-holder, who was the most expensive buy last year, saw intense competition before DC secured his services.

A Competitive Bidding War

The auction began with Mumbai Indians placing the opening bid for Starc. However, as the price crossed ₹6 crore, Kolkata Knight Riders (Starc’s previous franchise) joined the battle. The bidding intensified when Delhi Capitals entered the fray, eventually outlasting KKR after the price surpassed ₹10 crore. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also showed interest but stepped back, leaving DC to seal the deal at ₹11.75 crore.

Starc’s inclusion is a significant boost for DC, who were keen to strengthen their bowling attack. Known for his lethal pace and precision, the Australian brings experience and a proven track record in T20 cricket to the Capitals’ squad.

This year’s auction also saw record-breaking deals for marquee Indian players. Rishabh Pant became the most expensive IPL signing ever, with Lucknow Super Giants acquiring him for ₹27 crore. Shreyas Iyer, signed by Punjab Kings for ₹26.75 crore, briefly held the record before Pant’s signing surpassed it.
