The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly ready to agree to the hybrid model for hosting the Champions Trophy 2025. According to India Today, this decision comes after India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns.
Media reports suggest that the International Cricket Council (ICC) proposed the hybrid model, but the PCB has laid down three conditions for their approval. Although no official announcement has been made by the ICC or PCB, the report states that India’s matches will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
PCB’s Three Conditions for the Hybrid Model
The PCB has shared the following terms for the hybrid hosting plan:
- All matches involving the Indian cricket team, including group matches, semi-finals, and the final (if India qualifies), must take place in Dubai.
- If India does not qualify for the knockout stages, Pakistan will host the semi-finals and final in Lahore.
- For any ICC events hosted by India in the future, Pakistan’s matches must be played at neutral venues.
Preparations for the Tournament
The PCB Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, recently met Emirates Cricket Board chief Mubashir Usmani in Dubai to discuss the hybrid hosting model. Naqvi assured that Pakistan is fully prepared to host the Champions Trophy and that the arrangements are on track.
In a statement, Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan will provide state-level security to all participating teams. He also confirmed that construction work at the designated stadiums is progressing as planned.
The PCB believes the tournament will be a major event for the country, and fans are eager to watch international teams and players compete on home soil. Meanwhile, Usmani, who is also the chairman of the ICC’s associate members’ committee, was briefed about the stability of the situation in Pakistan.
