Baroda created history in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) by posting the highest-ever T20 total in men’s cricket. Playing against Sikkim on December 5, the Gujarat-based team smashed an unbelievable 349 runs in 20 overs. Despite Hardik Pandya being rested, the team, led by Krunal Pandya, put on a breathtaking batting display in Indore.

Bhanu Pania was the star of the show, scoring 134 runs off just 51 balls, including 15 sixes. His incredible innings powered Baroda past the previous record of 344 set by Zimbabwe earlier this year.

Records Tumble in Indore

Baroda began aggressively, with openers Abhimanyu Singh and Shashwat Rawat adding 92 runs in just five overs. Singh scored 53 off 17 balls, while Rawat smashed 43 off 16 deliveries. Despite losing both openers quickly, Baroda continued their charge.

Bhanu Pania and Shivalik Sharma then took control, hammering the Sikkim bowlers all around the park. Their partnership of 94 runs came in just five overs, leaving the opposition stunned. Shivalik contributed with a quickfire knock, hitting six sixes and three boundaries.

Adding to the carnage, wicketkeeper Vikram Solanki played a fiery cameo, scoring 50 runs off just 16 balls, including six sixes. Baroda also set a new record for the most sixes in an innings, hitting 37 maximums.

Most Expensive Spell in Indian T20 Cricket

Sikkim’s Roshan Kumar had a tough outing, conceding 81 runs in his four overs—the most expensive spell in Indian T20 history. He broke Mohit Sharma’s record of 73 runs in four overs, which was set during IPL 2024.

Baroda’s extraordinary total of 349 not only shattered records but also marked the first time a team in the SMAT crossed the 300-run mark.
