Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj’s heated exchange with Travis Head during the second Test in Adelaide sparked debates about on-field aggression. After Siraj dismissed Head with a fiery delivery, his animated send-off drew reactions from both the opposition and the crowd. Indian captain Rohit Sharma has now addressed the situation, supporting Siraj while emphasizing the importance of maintaining respect in the game.
Rohit Sharma Backs Mohammed Siraj
Speaking at the press conference, Rohit acknowledged Siraj’s aggressive nature on the field and explained how such intensity often fuels players.
“Yeah, he likes to get into the battle. It gives him success. As the captain, it’s my job to back that aggression. Obviously, there’s a fine line—we don’t want to cross anything that disrespects the game. But having a word or two with the opposition is not a bad thing. He likes it, and it gets him going. In the past, we’ve seen many cricketers thrive in such battles, and Siraj is definitely one of them,” said Rohit.
While supporting his bowler, Rohit also emphasized the need for self-control.
“That said, there’s a thin line between being aggressive and crossing the limit. As captain, it’s my responsibility to ensure we don’t cross that line. A word or two here and there doesn’t make a huge difference,” he added.
Crowd Reaction and Heated Exchange
The Adelaide crowd was quick to react, booing Siraj and cheering for Head, who had scored a brilliant 140 runs. The exchange between the two escalated when Siraj claimed that Head had abused him after his dismissal. Head, on the other hand, denied the accusations and stated that he only said, “well-bowled,” which Siraj allegedly misinterpreted.
Siraj, however, stood firm on his version, stating:
“The Indian team respects every player, and I did not engage in an aggressive celebration in the first place. It was Head who abused me, and that triggered my reaction.”
Rohit downplayed the crowd’s behavior, saying:
“Our players are used to performing in big crowds. When things go well, they support; when things don’t, they don’t—that happens everywhere. Siraj knows what he needs to do for the team. His job is to take wickets, and he will do everything required to achieve that. External factors don’t matter to him.”
