Ben Curran, the brother of famous England cricketers Sam Curran and Tom Curran, has been included in Zimbabwe’s ODI squad. Zimbabwe, known as the Chevrons, is set to host Afghanistan for a limited-overs and Test series this month.

Ben Curran’s family has a strong connection to Zimbabwe cricket. His father, Kevin Curran, played 11 ODIs for Zimbabwe between 1983 and 1987. Later, Kevin became the head coach of the national team from 2005 to 2007. Ben himself has played for Northamptonshire from 2018 to 2022 before making a name for himself in Zimbabwe’s domestic cricket.

The 28-year-old has had an outstanding domestic season, emerging as the leading run-scorer in Zimbabwe’s 50-over competition with an average of 64.50. In red-ball cricket, his average is even higher at 74.14. His brilliant performances have earned him a place in the national squad for the first time.

The ODI series against Afghanistan will begin on December 17, followed by a three-match T20I series from December 11 to 14. A two-match Test series will start with the first game on December 26. The squad for the Test series will be announced later.

Zimbabwe has named strong squads for both the ODIs and T20Is. Some key players in the ODI squad include captain Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams, and Blessing Muzarabani. For the T20I series, Sikandar Raza will lead the team, which features Ryan Burl, Blessing Muzarabani, and Wellington Masakadza among others.
