Australia has announced their playing XI for the Gabba Test starting Saturday, December 14. On the other hand, India usually reveals their playing XI during the toss. However, reports suggest that Rohit Sharma might return to his regular opening position, and star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja could make a comeback for this crucial match.
In the Perth Test, KL Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal in Rohit’s absence. The same batting order was used in the Adelaide Test, where Rohit batted at number six but couldn’t perform well. Across both innings, he managed to score just nine runs.
This has led to speculation that the ‘Hitman’ might return to his usual opening spot in the Gabba Test. KL Rahul, who has been playing as a floater for some time, could bat in the middle order.
KL Rahul in the Middle Order
Moving KL Rahul to the middle order could strengthen India’s batting. He has the ability to stay on the crease for a long time, which can frustrate the Australian bowlers. Moreover, he can shield the tailenders from being exposed too early.
India might also bring in Ravindra Jadeja to balance the batting and bowling departments. Washington Sundar played the first Test, and Ravichandran Ashwin featured in the second, but neither spinner made a significant impact. Jadeja, with his ability to bowl consistently from one end, allows the captain to rotate other bowlers effectively.
Changes in Bowling Unit
India’s bowling lineup could see some changes too. Harshit Rana had a disappointing outing in the Adelaide Test. Rohit Sharma might consider giving Akashdeep a chance to bolster the pace attack.
India’s Playing XI for 3rd Test:
Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant(w), Rohit Sharma(c), Nitish Reddy, Ravichandran Ashwin/Washington Sundar/Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana/Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj.
