Pakistan opener Saim Ayub played an outstanding knock of 98 not out in the second T20I against South Africa in Centurion to help Pakistan post a strong total of 206/5 in their 20 overs. However, he missed his well-deserved hundred due to a dramatic incident in the final over.

With two balls remaining in the innings, Ayub, who was at the non-striker’s end, requested Abbas Afridi to take a single.

“Oye ab single le le (Just take a single now),” Ayub was heard saying.

Instead, Afridi lofted the next delivery for a four, leaving Ayub stranded on 98. The last ball, bowled by Ottniel Baartman, wasn’t a wide, further ending Ayub’s hopes of reaching his century. Despite this, Ayub’s knock, which included 11 fours and 5 sixes, gave Pakistan a solid first-innings total. Abbas Afridi, meanwhile, contributed 11 runs off 4 balls.

Reeza Hendricks Shines as South Africa Clinch Series

Chasing 207, South Africa had a shaky start, losing two wickets for just 28 runs. However, Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen turned the game around with a 157-run stand. Hendricks stole the show with a match-winning 117 off 63 balls, hitting 7 fours and 10 sixes. Van der Dussen supported him well with an unbeaten 66 off 38 balls.

The duo’s partnership took the game away from Pakistan as South Africa chased down the target with three balls to spare, winning by 7 wickets. Pakistan’s bowlers had an off day, failing to defend a high total. With this victory, South Africa secured the three-match series 2-0, leaving Pakistan with much to think about before the final game.
