Maharashtra captain and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Ruturaj Gaikwad had a disappointing start to the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. In their opening match against Rajasthan, he was dismissed for just 1 run in the second over.

Chasing a target of 216 runs, Gaikwad opened the batting alongside Om Bhosale. However, Rajasthan’s Aniket Choudhary struck early, sending Gaikwad back to the pavilion. This early blow was not what the Maharashtra team or CSK fans had hoped for.

Rahul Tripathi’s Struggles Continue

The disappointment didn’t end with Gaikwad. Rahul Tripathi, another CSK player, failed to make an impact. Coming in at No. 5, Tripathi was dismissed for a duck after facing six balls. Both Gaikwad and Tripathi have had an underwhelming season so far.

In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Gaikwad scored just 123 runs in five matches, while Tripathi managed the same total in six games. Both players will need to bounce back strongly in the remaining matches to regain their form.

Maharashtra vs Rajasthan Match Summary

Rajasthan batted first and were bowled out for 215 runs in 40.1 overs. Kartik Sharma was the standout performer, scoring 123 runs. Maharashtra’s Rajneesh Gurbani bowled brilliantly, taking 4 wickets. Pradeep Dadhe and Satyajeet Bachhav also contributed with two wickets each.

In reply, Maharashtra successfully chased down the target with a strong batting effort. Ankit Bawane anchored the innings with an unbeaten 74*, supported by Siddesh Veer (43) and Nikhil Naik (46). Rajasthan’s Aniket Choudhary shone with the ball, claiming 4 wickets, while Manav Suthar picked up 2 wickets.
