Nathan McSweeney made a stunning return to form in the Big Bash League (BBL) as Brisbane Heat defeated Adelaide Strikers by three wickets in a last-over thriller at the Gabba. McSweeney, who recently faced criticism after being dropped from the Australia squad in the ongoing Test series against India, silenced his critics with a spectacular unbeaten knock of 78 runs.

Nathan McSweeney’s Redemption Story

After failing to impress in the first three Tests against India, McSweeney was released from the Australia squad. However, he grabbed the opportunity to play for Brisbane Heat in the BBL with both hands. Chasing 175 for victory, McSweeney anchored the innings and played an important role in the Heat’s successful chase.

The right-hander scored 78 runs off just 49 balls, smashing 10 fours and 2 sixes. His calm and composed innings came under pressure as wickets kept falling at the other end. McSweeney also stitched a crucial 85-run partnership with Matt Renshaw, who played a fiery knock of 54 runs off 27 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes.

Despite losing wickets towards the end, McSweeney held his nerve and ensured Brisbane Heat crossed the line with three balls to spare.

Adelaide Strikers’ Innings

Earlier, Adelaide Strikers posted a competitive total of 174/6 in their 20 overs. Jamie Overton’s unbeaten 45 off 24 balls gave their innings the much-needed boost after a slow start. Contributions from Ollie Pope (34) and Chris Lynn (24) helped steady the innings, but regular wickets kept them from gaining full momentum.

For Brisbane Heat, Will Prestwidge stood out with figures of 2/16 in his two overs, while Paul Walter and Tom Whitney picked up one wicket each. McSweeney also made an impact in the field with a brilliant run-out to dismiss Ross.
