Match 31 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 saw a historic moment as Adelaide Strikers’ opener Matt Short hit the fastest century in the team’s history. The game, played against Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval, turned into a run-fest after the Strikers were sent to bat first.

Matt Short wasted no time getting into action. He smashed a 49-ball century, which is now the fastest-ever century for Adelaide Strikers in the BBL. His knock included 10 boundaries and seven massive sixes, leaving the Brisbane Heat bowlers helpless.

Short’s fantastic innings ended in the 16th over when Mitchell Swepson dismissed him for 109 off 54 balls. Swepson bowled a loopy leg break that tempted Short to slog-sweep, but he mistimed the shot, and the fielder at deep mid-wicket took the catch.

Record-Breaking Total for Adelaide Strikers

Short’s opening partner, Chris Lynn, also played an attacking knock, scoring 47 runs from just 20 balls. Together, they added 121 runs for the first wicket in only 54 balls, setting the perfect platform for a huge total.

In the middle order, Alex Ross played a brilliant cameo, hitting an unbeaten 44 off 19 balls. His late fireworks helped the Adelaide Strikers finish with 251 runs on the board, their highest-ever team total in BBL history.
