The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to introduce stricter rules for players and support staff after the Indian cricket team’s disappointing performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT).
A 1-3 loss in Australia, followed by a home Test series whitewash against New Zealand, has led to significant discussions on improving the team’s discipline and focus.
A recent report suggests that the BCCI may prevent Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir’s personal manager, Gaurav Arora, from being involved in team activities.
Restrictions on Gautam Gambhir’s Manager
Gaurav Arora has reportedly been traveling with Gambhir, a practice that was uncommon with previous Indian team coaches. However, under the new guidelines being considered, Arora may not be allowed to stay at the team hotel. He is also likely to lose access to the VIP box during matches and will not be permitted to use the team bus or its backup.
New Rules for Players
The BCCI is also looking to impose stricter rules on players. Reports suggest that families of Indian cricketers may face new restrictions during tours. For series lasting 45 days or longer, families will only be allowed to stay with the players for 14 days. For shorter tournaments, the limit could be reduced to seven days.
Additionally, all players, regardless of their seniority, will now be required to travel together in the team bus. This rule aims to promote team unity and discipline, as separate travel arrangements had become common for many players in recent years.
