Durbar Rajshahi, one of the most recognized franchises in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), finds itself in the midst of controversy over delayed salary payments. Following protests by local players, which disrupted training sessions, the franchise issued a public apology and pledged to clear 50% of the outstanding dues by January 16.
Players Protest Over Unpaid Dues
While foreign players and coaching staff have received 25% of their contracted payments, local players have faced prolonged delays, including irregularities in their daily allowances. The BPL governing council’s payment guidelines require franchises to disburse 50% of player fees before the tournament, 25% during the competition, and the remaining 25% post-tournament.
BCB Intervenes
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Faruque Ahmed stepped in to mediate and held discussions with Durbar Rajshahi officials. Jayed Ahmed, the franchise’s operations in-charge, reassured players and fans that payments would be completed on time.
“We are committed from the team management to all cricketers that we will pay them by January 16,” Jayed Ahmed told Cricbuzz. He clarified that the disrupted practice was unrelated to payment issues and attributed it to players resting during the Chattogram phase.
Delayed payments have been a common problem in the BPL. The apology from Durbar Rajshahi and the BCB’s involvement show the need to follow payment rules strictly to keep the tournament fair.
