Karun Nair’s consistent performances in domestic cricket have sparked debates over his absence from the Indian team. The 33-year-old batter has been in outstanding form, piling up runs in domestic cricket. He has scored over 750 runs in three ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy so far.
Amid this backdrop, former India spinner Harbhajan Singh has raised questions about the selectors’ approach towards the Vidarbha batsman. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan expressed disappointment over Nair’s continued exclusion.
“Many players are picked after just two games or based on IPL performances. Why are the rules different for Karun Nair?” Harbhajan asked. “Rohit and Virat are sent to play Ranji when out of form, but players like Karun, who are scoring consistently in Ranji, are ignored. When will these guys get their chance?”
Karun Nair’s omission from the Indian team has puzzled fans and experts alike since 2016, when he scored a historic triple century against England in Chennai. Despite this huge achievement, he was dropped shortly after from the national team.
“I never understood how he was dropped after a triple century. It pains me that no one talks about players like him,” Harbhajan remarked.
As India faces a transitional phase in Test cricket with senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struggling for form, Nair’s name has resurfaced in discussions about potential replacements.
