The much-awaited Sydney Smash between Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder has been abandoned due to heavy rain. The match, which was taking place at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), had already witnessed some exciting moments before the weather interrupted the proceedings.

At the time of abandonment, Sydney Thunder was at 36/1 in 5.1 overs, with the star batter David Warner leading the charge. Warner had been in superb form, accumulating 22 runs off 14 balls, including three boundaries and a six. Alongside him, Hugh Weibgen had just come to the crease, with 1 run from 3 balls. The early signs had pointed towards an exciting contest, especially with Warner in full flow.

However, the rain that had been looming over the stadium finally arrived, and the match could not continue. Sydney Thunder was in a solid position at the time, but the weather left no chance for them to press on.

With the match being abandoned, the points will be shared between the two teams, meaning the top three positions in the points table remain unchanged. The Sixers, who are placed in the second spot, will now head to the Qualifier, which will be a home game for the Hobart Hurricanes. On the other hand, the Thunder will be forced to play in the Knockout, which adds extra pressure as they fight for their spot in the playoffs.

As for the remaining round-robin matches, there are still three left to be played, with five teams in contention for the fourth and final playoff spot. The competition is heating up, and the final spots are still up for grabs.
