Durban Super Giants (DSG) had a tough outing at St George’s Park, Gqeberha, as they managed only 115/8 in their 20 overs against Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC). Despite a batting collapse, Naveen-ul-Haq’s unbeaten 30 off 15 balls, including 18 runs in the final over, helped DSG reach a three-figure total.
The Super Giants won the toss and decided to bat first, but their decision backfired. Marco Jansen struck in the very first over, dismissing Brandon King for a duck. The Sunrisers Eastern Cape pacers dominated the powerplay, reducing DSG to 18/4 in the first six overs. Richard Gleeson and Jansen were unstoppable, picking up crucial wickets and rattling the top order.
Williamson’s Fight and Naveen’s Late Blitz
Kane Williamson held one end steady, scoring 44 runs off 45 balls, but he received no support from the other batters. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals, and the run rate slowed down. DSG looked set to finish below 100 before Naveen-ul-Haq’s late heroics. His 30 runs, including four boundaries and one six in the final over, lifted the team to 115/8.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape bowlers were brilliant throughout the innings. Richard Gleeson was the most economical, finishing with 2/19 in his four overs. Marco Jansen, Liam Dawson, and Ottneil Baartman also took two wickets each.
