Virat Kohli is all set to return to the Ranji Trophy after 13 years. He is expected to represent Delhi in their match against Railways, starting on January 30. Kohli missed Delhi’s last game against Saurashtra due to neck stiffness, but the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed his availability for the upcoming match.

“Virat Kohli is available for the Ranji Trophy fixture against Railways. We are thrilled that he is representing Delhi after so many years,” a DDCA source confirmed.

Kohli has played 23 Ranji Trophy matches for Delhi, scoring 1574 runs at an average of 50.77, including five centuries. His last Ranji appearance was in the 2012-13 season against Uttar Pradesh, where he scored 57 runs.

BCCI’s Directive on Domestic Cricket Participation

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced new rules for centrally contracted players. It is now mandatory for them to participate in domestic tournaments to stay eligible for national selection and retain their contracts.

“Participation in domestic matches is mandatory to stay connected with the domestic cricket ecosystem, inspire young players, and maintain fitness,” the BCCI stated in its 10-point directive.

Since the rule was introduced, players like Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Shubman Gill have confirmed their availability for Ranji Trophy matches. The BCCI has also warned of disciplinary action for non-compliance, which may include suspension from tournaments like the IPL or deduction of contract fees.
