The Sydney Sixers’ chase of 174 runs against Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 Qualifier got off to a disastrous start, with their top order crumbling early. The Hurricanes dominated the opening overs, and their captain Moises Henriques was dismissed for just one run, courtesy of a sensational catch by Ben McDermott.

The stunning moment occurred in the third over of the innings. Riley Meredith bowled a 149 kph delivery outside off-stump, and Henriques attempted to hit it on the up. However, he only managed to get a thick outside edge.

McDermott, stationed at wide slip, reacted instantly, diving to his left to grab the ball with both hands. The sharp reflexes and perfect timing made it look effortless, though the ball was traveling at pace. With this dismissal, Meredith achieved a personal milestone, claiming his 100th wicket in the Big Bash League.

Before Henriques’ dismissal, the Hurricanes had already put the Sixers on the back foot. Both openers, Jack Edwards and Josh Philippe, were dismissed for ducks. Philippe fell to Riley Meredith, while Edwards was sent packing by Cameron Gannon. At the time of writing, the Sixers were reeling at 33/3 in six overs, struggling to rebuild their innings.
