Studio Sirah, a leading game developer from India, has announced that its critically acclaimed strategy game Kurukshetra: Ascension has surpassed one million players across PC, Android, and iOS platforms. Released in February 2022, the game has rapidly gained a following, earning the title of India’s first-ever card collection strategy game and winning the prestigious Google Play Best Indie Game award for 2023.

Since its launch, players have engaged in over 14.6 million matches across multiple modes, including Story, Duels, Challenges, and Drafts. The game’s Duels mode, where players battle human opponents, has seen particularly high engagement, with players spending a total of over 960,000 hours in combat.

A standout feature of Kurukshetra: Ascension is its immersive universe, inspired by the Indian Epics, the Mahabharata and Ramayana. The game allows players to create powerful decks, strategize their battles, and progress through ranks by mastering heroes and spells from these ancient texts. Arjuna, the most popular hero, has appeared in over 3.8 million matches, while one dedicated player has spent nearly 2,000 hours in the game since its release, showcasing the deep engagement and lasting appeal of the game.

“We built Kurukshetra to celebrate the Indian Epics and bring them to modern audiences in an engaging way,” said Abhaas Shah, co-founder of Studio Sirah. “The overwhelming love and critical acclaim from players worldwide have reaffirmed our vision of setting a new benchmark for quality in Indian gaming and storytelling. In a market saturated with battle royales and hyper-casual games, we’re proud of the unique niche Kurukshetra: Ascension has carved for itself.”

The game is currently in its 11th season, Journey to the Himalayas, which introduces new content including the playable hero Himavat, the new weapon card Himasura, and the guardian card Himastra. Additionally, a new Karma Pass — the game’s version of a battle pass — offers rewards such as boosts, legendary cards, and more.

Looking ahead, Studio Sirah plans to release a new season of content next month and is already working on a new game that will continue its focus on Indian Epics.
