Arshdeep Singh made history on Wednesday during the first T20I between India and England at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The left-arm seamer achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is.

Starting the match with 95 wickets in T20Is, Arshdeep needed just one wicket to equal Chahal’s tally of 96. He did so in the very first over of the match, dismissing England’s opener Phil Salt on the third ball. But Arshdeep wasn’t done yet—he returned for his second over and took the wicket of Ben Duckett, thus reaching 97 wickets.

Arshdeep achieved this feat in his 61st T20I match, making it even more impressive. To add to the significance, he became only the second Indian bowler to reach 97 T20I wickets after Chahal. Now, only three wickets stand between Arshdeep and becoming the first Indian to take 100 wickets in T20Is. If he takes three more wickets in this series, he will etch his name into Indian cricket history.

India’s Highest-Wicket Takers In India:

  1. Arshdeep Singh – 97 wickets (61 matches)
  2. Yuzvendra Chahal – 96 wickets (80 matches)
  3. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 90 wickets (87 matches)
