Fortune Barishal edged past Khulna Tigers by 7 runs in a nail-biting contest in Match 30 of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024-25 at the Zahur Ahmad Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram. After setting a challenging target of 168, Barishal held their nerve in the final overs to secure a crucial win.

Barishal’s Innings: Mahmudullah Anchors Amidst Wickets

Barishal’s decision to bat first initially seemed to backfire as they were reduced to 1/2 within the first over, with skipper Tamim Iqbal and Dawid Malan departing for ducks. However, Towhid Hridoy steadied the innings with a composed 36 off 30 balls. Mahmudullah played the anchor role, scoring 50 off 45 balls, while Rishad Hossain’s explosive 39 off 19 balls in the death overs gave the innings much-needed momentum.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz was the standout bowler for Khulna, claiming 3 wickets for 35 runs. Salman Irshad also impressed with figures of 2/19. Despite their efforts, Barishal posted a competitive total of 167/9 in their 20 overs.

Khulna’s Chase: Naim’s Heroics in Vain

Chasing 168, Khulna Tigers got off to a poor start, losing Imrul Kayes early for a duck. Mohammad Naim took charge of the chase with a brilliant 77 off 59 balls, hitting 4 fours and 6 sixes. He was supported by captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who contributed 33 off 29 balls, and Afif Hossain’s quick 27 off 17 balls.

However, Barishal’s bowlers held their nerve in the death overs. Mohammad Nabi (1/19) and Jahandad Khan (2/20) delivered crucial breakthroughs. Rishad Hossain also chipped in with a wicket. Despite Naim’s heroics, Khulna fell short, managing 160/6 in their 20 overs.
