Tom Banton and Andre Fletcher created history in the 22nd match of ILT20 2025 between MI Emirates and Desert Vipers at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi, on Monday, January 17. The duo stitched a massive 198-run partnership for the second wicket, the highest ever in the tournament’s history.

Historic Partnership

MI Emirates lost their first wicket early when Muhammad Waseem, who scored 19 runs from 15 balls, was dismissed in the third over by Mohammad Amir. Andre Fletcher, however, held his ground and found a steady partner in Tom Banton. While Fletcher started attacking the bowlers, Banton took time to settle.

Banton scored only 16 runs off his first 19 balls but soon changed gears. Fletcher, meanwhile, continued his aggressive approach, smashing boundaries at will. The two batters completely dominated the Desert Vipers’ bowling attack.

The final seven overs yielded 117 runs, with Banton leading the charge. He brought up his second century of the season, scoring 105 runs from 55 balls, including nine fours and seven sixes. Fletcher also played a brilliant knock, remaining unbeaten on 96 off 50 balls, decorated with ten fours and three sixes.

Record-Breaking Total

MI Emirates finished their innings at a massive 228/2 in 20 overs. Banton was run out on the second-last ball, while Fletcher ended the innings with a six. The Desert Vipers’ bowlers struggled throughout, with none of them managing to keep the runs in check.

The partnership between Banton and Fletcher broke the previous record of 164 runs by Alex Hales and Colin Munro in ILT20 2023. This effort also surpassed Banton’s earlier 157-run partnership with Kusal Perera earlier in the season.
