India’s star batter, Virat Kohli, shared a heart-warming moment during his training session with the Delhi Ranji Trophy team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on January 28. Kohli met his childhood friend, Shawez Khan, and took some time to greet him and his son, Kabir. The two old friends shared a warm hug and even posed for photos.
What made this meeting even more memorable was Kabir’s thoughtful gesture. He had brought a hand-drawn sketch of Kohli and also had the opportunity to get a bat autographed by the cricket legend. The young fan was clearly thrilled to meet his idol and hear advice directly from him.
“I asked him how can I play for India?… He said ‘You have to practice hard. And it shouldn’t be your Papa telling you to go to practice. You should tell Papa, I have to go to practice’,” Kabir shared.
Virat Kohli’s Return to Domestic Cricket
Earlier that day, Kohli had joined the Delhi Ranji squad for running drills and practiced his back-foot batting alongside his teammates. His return to domestic cricket is creating a lot of buzz, especially as other top Indian players, like Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, are also making their way back to the domestic circuit.
Kohli’s return is in line with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s renewed emphasis on domestic performances as a crucial factor for international selection. After missing Delhi’s last match against Saurashtra due to a neck injury, Kohli is eager to make a strong impact in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match.
