JKCSF Chairman Calls for Urgent Action Against Online Gambling in Jammu and Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), led by Chairman Abdul Qayoom Wani, has issued a call for the immediate imposition of a ban on online gambling platforms in the region. This appeal follows growing concerns about the destructive impact of online gambling on families and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

As reported by Rising Kashmir, Wani, in his statement, emphasized the pressing need for government action, calling online gambling not just an individual issue, but a societal crisis. The alarming rise in online gambling has left many young individuals in financial distress, with several victims spiraling into depression, all while damaging their family structures.

Online gambling issue is not just an individual problem; it is a societal crisis that demands urgent action. We appeal to the government to ban these platforms and save our youth from this destructive path,” said Wani.

The Forum has highlighted how the allure of quick money, often promised by online gambling, has drawn many youth into dangerous financial practices, exacerbating already existing societal issues. To tackle this growing issue, JKCSF has also called for reforms in government loan and subsidy schemes, which the Forum argues are restrictive and cumbersome for young people eager to start businesses or invest in productive ventures.

Wani suggested that simplifying loan access and subsidy schemes could empower young people to seek legitimate entrepreneurial opportunities, redirecting them away from the temptations of gambling.

In addition to these calls for policy reform, JKCSF urged the youth of Jammu and Kashmir to resist the lure of online gambling, focusing on building sustainable and honorable careers. The Forum also stressed the need for collective action from the administration, civil society, and religious organizations to address this critical issue and secure a brighter future for the region.
