Virat Kohli is set to make his much-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy after over 12 years. The star batter will represent Delhi in their Group D fixture against Railways at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, starting January 30. Kohli will play under the captaincy of young Ayush Badoni.

Virat Kohli’s Best Knock in Ranji Trophy

Kohli’s highest score in India’s premier domestic tournament came in November 2010 against Bengal. Delhi were chasing Bengal’s first-innings total of 473, and Kohli, batting at No. 3, played a brilliant knock. He scored 173 runs off 267 balls, hitting 24 fours and a six. His innings, played at a strike rate of 64.79, helped Delhi reach 459 before being bowled out.

Since there was no second innings for Delhi, the match ended in a draw. However, Kohli’s 173-run knock remains his best performance in the Ranji Trophy.

Virat Kohli’s Overall Ranji Trophy Record

So far, Kohli has played 23 Ranji Trophy matches, scoring 1,574 runs in 36 innings at an average of 50.77. He has registered five centuries and five half-centuries in the tournament.

His last Ranji Trophy appearance was in November 2012 against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. He couldn’t make much of an impact in that match, scoring 14 runs in the first innings and 43 runs in the second. Uttar Pradesh won the game by six wickets.

Kohli made his Ranji Trophy debut in November 2006 against Tamil Nadu. Now, following his struggles in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and BCCI’s mandate for players to participate in domestic cricket, he is set to return to first-class action with Delhi.
